NPL update

I’m finally in the last stretch of editing The Naked Preacher Lady and it’s been a long haul. I shot it almost ten years ago. I never had any desire to make a documentary, but when I met Baby Rae I just knew I had to do it. I shot things as they happened and they happened to fall apart as I was shooting them and that’s a pretty amazing thing to capture on video.

When I started putting this thing together about a year ago, I knew I had a movie but I was getting tripped up in framing it properly. I wanted to personalize it, so I shot a bunch of footage with me as the NPL’s therapist, but it was all too muddled and indirect for what I was trying to do, so I scrapped what I shot. It needed to be more cohesive and I was just making it more of a hot mess.

Xiu Xiu gave me some amazing music and that did a lot to create a common sonic thread for the picture. I decided to just go ahead and do a first person omniscient narration and the thing works. It worked so well, I went back and added more. Last night I finished editing the narration footage. Now I just have to tweak the sound and then integrate the new additions into the entire piece. Then it’s done.
