P.U.F.F. Piece

The Portland Underground Film Festival (held every summer at the historic Clinton Street Theater) is willing to show my work here in Portland, Oregon and I appreciate that. In 2007 they selected my shot in a day tele(hella)novela PALACE OF STAINS. It was a small audience, but at least I didn’t know some of the people. I was in low spirits and had no desire to question and answer after the flick. My neighbor was there and he asked me what the hell I was thinking, making this thing. I went to the after party at the Aalto Lounge and I met D.K. Holm, who was super cool and a super fun person to talk to about film. We both really dig Guy Maddin. The woman who came with him to the party told us about how she narrowly escaped Henry Lee Lucas. Mike, Sacto pal and formerly of the B Sexuals, came out to the show and it was his birthday. I believe I bought him a drink.
A week ago my short entitled SPREE! ALL THE WAY TO MEXICO showed in the P.U.F.F. shorts program. It looked and sounded great. The entire program kept my interest and offered a diverse array of off kilter and truly underground shorts. I also went to see the Shark Movie and an over the top steaming hunk of digital insanity, THE TAINT. I really enjoyed the movie but I almost had a panic attack and had to escape the theater. I was fine once I was out in the sun. I took a nice drive. Wind in my hair and all that.
The Clinton Street Theater is one of my favorites in this here city. It is a unique and dying breed of movie house. Mike and George Kuchar called it a beatnik theater when they appeared showing recent work at the Clinton in the summer of 2008. And it’s haunted and I love haunted places. Especially movie theaters.
